I'm naming the restaurant here because I want them to start doing the real poutine again! This was for all intent an purposes a real poutine in Melbourne but it didn't last for so long and availability was spotty as the Mr Burger truck at Welcome to Thornbury would sometime not have the curd cheese (or give like 4 pieces, WTF) but the shop on Chapel Street would constantly deliver. Notice how they also had a bit of shredded yellow cheese in there but it's fair enough because they were nailing the recipe anyway and the added shredded cheese just added a subtle taste. It's hard to see but look in the middle top and you'll see a string of yellow cheese. Again, no drama, a wonderful poutine in Melbourne standards.

It's a real opinion of a real meal bought in a restaurant but not all restaurants labelled the meal as being a poutine and it's all in the spirit of discovery and fun. Some labelled the dish as "loaded fries" or simply with the ingredients "Chips, Gravy & Cheese". I wish everyone would try every poutine and all the close variations. For any chef or worries restaurant owner the best solution is still to do more research on poutine, its origin and the existing variations in Quebec. Otherwise the "loaded fries" label is a very polite way to tell that you're not going to have curd cheese, for example, even if it won't prevent a Quebecois from thinking about poutine while eating loaded fries.
