Here we have a poutine made with effort and care that unfortunately misses a few points. You can feel the respect for poutine and real interest. I'll use 3 sentences to say that the restaurant's heart is at the right place. The curd cheese looks home made. Curds are a bit too small but it's alright. Probably because of the limited availability of the curd cheese they have to hide a bit of shredded cheese under this. Chips are way to big and salted. With a salted gravy, salted curd cheese and salt added on these giant chips you need 4 pints of water to get through half a portion. Say "no salt please" and it should be better. The size is perfect to share so that's a plus. This is a BIG bowl and it looks small only because the chips are giant too.

It's a real opinion of a real meal bought in a restaurant but not all restaurants labelled the meal as being a poutine and it's all in the spirit of discovery and fun. Some labelled the dish as "loaded fries" or simply with the ingredients "Chips, Gravy & Cheese". I wish everyone would try every poutine and all the close variations. For any chef or worries restaurant owner the best solution is still to do more research on poutine, its origin and the existing variations in Quebec. Otherwise the "loaded fries" label is a very polite way to tell that you're not going to have curd cheese, for example, even if it won't prevent a Quebecois from thinking about poutine while eating loaded fries.
